The Missouri Community College Association 60th Annual Convention
(December 11, 2024) Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) hosted its 60th Annual Convention and Tradeshow in Branson, Mo. last month, bringing together higher education leaders for the Midwest’s largest community college professional development event. The convention welcomed over 500 attendees, 44 sponsors and exhibitors and featured 60 breakout sessions and 23 awards.
The awards ceremony honored outstanding individuals and contributions to the community college sector. MCCA presented ten internal awards to community college staff, each receiving a trophy and a $250 cash award, and 13 external awards—one for each community college—and a special award for Missouri Governor Mike Parson.
Parson was recognized with the Show-Me Leadership Award, marking only the second time this award has been given.
This year, the event was highlighted by an inspiring keynote address from renowned entertainer Jeff Houghton, who highlighted the importance of taking chances, believing in oneself and the impact even just one person can make.
“Our keynote speaker provided an incredible message that resonated deeply with our attendees,” said Brian Millner, president and CEO of MCCA. “Jeff’s insights on the impact each of us can make in our own world truly captured the essence of what community colleges strive to achieve in their communities.”
The convention also celebrated student leadership by spotlighting student leaders, including Jessaka Thompson and Ty Borich of Ozarks Technical Community College, who delivered presentations on how community colleges made a difference in their lives.
A highlight of this year’s event was the return of the MCCA Games, which once again added a sense of camaraderie and excitement. Competitors from colleges across the state participated in friendly contests, with the champion winning a $1,000 donation for their college’s foundation.
“These games bring an energy that attendees love, while also supporting a great cause,” said MCCA’s Director of Professional Development and Member Engagement, Cliff Judy. “It’s a creative way to unite our colleges and give back to their communities.”
The convention’s success was made possible by the dedication of over 40 volunteers, who helped ensure the event ran smoothly.
“We are continually amazed by the engagement and commitment of our members,” added Judy. “Our volunteers are at the heart of this event, and we couldn’t do it without their hard work and enthusiasm.”
MCCA’s 61st Annual Convention and Tradeshow will be held in St. Charles, Mo., from November 12-14, 2025.
